Red Bull Linecatcher 2010 – Vars, France

Posted on January 14th, 2010 in events, general by Spencer

The Red Bull Linecatcher event in Vars, France was quite amazing this year. The new competition format catered to the style of free skiing’s top athletes. For the past couple of years it seems more and more pros are leaving the terrain park for natural hits in the back country. The course in Vars had a big mountain feel with select takeoffs throughout giving everyone the freedom to choose a line and hit huge transfers. Frenchman Candide Thovex took 1st by sticking his final run, K2 Ski’s Sean Pettit placed 2nd but maybe should have been a little higher with his mind blowing run, and CR Johnson rounded out the podium with the bronze. Jon Olsson Wears Tall T At Freestyle.ch

Posted on October 1st, 2009 in general, skiers by Spencer

Redbull and Head Skis brought their newest hyphy athlete to Zurich last weekend. Jon Olsson sported himself a tall t. Maybe it was too warm for the Swede to sport a normal sized shirt, but we think he is trying to fit in with the youngsters. The good news is that we found some Head JO Pros On Sale at Backcountry.com. Perfect time to get a pair before they go up in price. Please, do it for the ladies.

Posted on May 1st, 2009 in general by Spencer

After the 2007-2008 season everyone knew who Sean Pettit was. From magazine coverage to video parts, Sean chiseled his name into the wall of freeskiing. At the same time his older brother, Callum, was cut out of the once shared sponsorship deals and was forced to figure out what he could bring to the sport. Read More…

Tom Wallisch Takes Dumont Cup Home

Posted on April 12th, 2009 in general by Spencer

Just when you thought Tom Wallisch couldn’t blow up anymore this year he goes and wins the RedBull Dumont Cup held this weekend in Sunday River Maine. Looks like the 2007 SuperUnknown winner’s hard work in Park City has payed off. The amount of coverage Tom has received since his win at the XGames has been astounding. If there has been a major event in the freeskiing world Tom has been there. This weekend he brought his technical yet smooth style to Sunday River and impressed the judges enough to bring home the $10K prize. Good work T$.

Skiers Winch Some Urban – Red Bull Winch Session

Posted on March 31st, 2009 in general by Spencer

Skiers reinvent the winch Red Bull style and throw down in the urban arena. Wakeskaters have been hitting spots never thought possible with winches for the last couple years. It was only time before other athletes jumped behind the motor. Word on the street is that Sammy Carlson is borrowing a winch from Active Water Sports thanks to Mr. Silas Thurman of the Nike 6.0 Wake department. Hopefully we see a couple shots from around the NW in upcoming videos or edits. Watch RedBull Ski Winch Videos

Red Bull’s Shane McConkey and Sean Pettit on Today Show

Posted on October 24th, 2008 in general by Spencer

Red Bull Ski Teamers Shane McConkey and Sean Pettit appeared yesterday on the Today Show, pumping up the New York premier of Matchstick Production’s new movie, “Claim.” Check it out!

That Shane sure is good on TV. The youngster Sean Pettit seems to be a little more nervous. At least they get to talk about their lives as professional skiers being XTreme all day long. I’m just stoked they are getting the exposure on national TV.

Freeskier Celebrates Simon’s World Record

Posted on October 6th, 2008 in general by Spencer

As if a cover wasn’t enough, Freeskier Mag threw a party for Simon Dumont celebrating his insane feat of breaking the world record for height off a quarterpipe.

After all, it’s not everyday you meet someone with a legit world record. Simon boosted 35.5 feet above the lip of the quarterpipe, throwing in a 900 with a tail grab. Are you kidding me? The record was previously held by snowboard legend, Terje who claimed 32 feet and a backside 360 method in 2007.  Prior that, the record was held by Heikki Sorsa. Congrats on a World Record Simon and thanks to Freeskier for the support!
