Holy Nike 6.0’s, CoreUpt’s TJ Schiller is Back

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Hello Mr. Schiller. Welcome back to a Skier’s Realm. There is no better feeling than clicking back into a pair of bindings after dealing with the struggle of recovering from an injury. According to a source close to TJ, he still has worries about the life of his career and how well his knee will hold up this year. With the amount of work TJ Schiller has put into the rehab process, there is no doubt in my mind he will be strong enough to make a huge impact in the skiing community this season.

In late November TJ knocked the dust off of his boots with Jon Olsson at the water jumps in a brisk Stockholm. He was in Sweden to judge fellow CoreUpt Skiers Gus, Ritchi, and Colby West in the Stockholm King Of Style. Seems like he is getting his muscle memory back in a hurry. Check out the video from Jon Olsson’s Video Blog below. TJ Schiller will be testing himself at the first ever Winter Dew Tour Stop in Breckenridge Colarado. We want to wish TJ a awesome and healthy season. Keep it real for the CoreUpt and Nike 6.0 Ski Teams.

Nike 6.0 Ski Brings Snowy Stokage

Monday, November 17th, 2008

You can feel it in the air. That frosty slap to the face when you leave the house in the morning. There’s no denying it–Ol’ Man Winter is on his way. And the boys on the 6.0 ski team couldn’t be more psyched. But we’re not a selfish bunch here at 6.Ohhh, far from it. We prefer to share the snowy stokage with all. So with no further ado, check out the insane footage above. And then read the interview below to find out what our esteemed rider Jossi Wells had to say about his time in Austria and what he thinks about stepping away from the park for a second to hit some big mountain terrain.

Had you been to Austria before? If so, how many times had you been there before? If not, what where your expectations?
I had never been to Austria before. I had seen photos and video of the boys there before and I was so excited to go and shred terrain that I had seen in the movies.

Explain the bus and our arrival to Zurich from California…
When we walked out of the airport in Zurich, we had a huge tour bus waiting for us. Pretty much felt like a rock star! Haha. It was all tricked out inside and traveling in it was more of a luxury and fun than a lame long drive. It had 2 flat screen TVs, 12 beds, some dope couches, a bathroom, kitchen, pretty much everything you could want was in there!

Describe the St. Anton region…
The mountains are huge and rather intimidating, but at the same time there is such a relaxed atmosphere there. It’s really quite amazing.

Describe the snow conditions we faced…
The snow we had when we were there was pretty shocking, super sun baked and just not exactly the ideal conditions for what we wanted to do. We made the most of it though and hiked around to find areas where the sun hadn’t affected it yet.

Why is it important for the 6.0 ski team to take trips like this?
All the athletes on the Nike team are heavily into the competition scene and it was really nice to get a break from that whole scene and get out into the real mountains. It made us so much more stoked and ready to go for it when we went back into competition.

Explain the lack of opportunity some park skiers face…
Now days, the park skiers are so focused on learning new tricks and getting as tech as they can in the park. They are forgetting totally about the big mountains that are out there and how much fun they are. I am one that has been affected by the park buzz. I had always been so into real skiing and blasting down a mountainside, but the last few years I find myself training so hard in the park and pipe that I had forgotten all about it. It was sick for me to go out and get the opportunity to go back to my roots and do some real skiing.

What are your expectations of the next Nike 6.0 trip? How can trips like this progress your skiing?
Oh man, I hear we are going catskiing in BC. And after the last Nike trip, I’m leaving my expectations open, because last time totally blew my mind so I have no idea what it’s going to be like this time! These trips are awesome for me, because it gets me as far away from a park as possible and I can completely forget about the pressures of the competitions and my progression. Nike 6.0 kills it!!!

Freeskier Celebrates Simon’s World Record

Monday, October 6th, 2008

As if a cover wasn’t enough, Freeskier Mag threw a party for Simon Dumont celebrating his insane feat of breaking the world record for height off a quarterpipe.

After all, it’s not everyday you meet someone with a legit world record. Simon boosted 35.5 feet above the lip of the quarterpipe, throwing in a 900 with a tail grab. Are you kidding me? The record was previously held by snowboard legend, Terje who claimed 32 feet and a backside 360 method in 2007.  Prior that, the record was held by Heikki Sorsa. Congrats on a World Record Simon and thanks to Freeskier for the support!

Nike 6.0 Dunk High Nimbus Customs For Skiers

Nike 6.0 Nimbus Dunk High Customs

Nike 6.0 Nimbus Dunk High Customs

(John Symms) Tall tees. Bandanas. Chains. Baggy clothes. Fresh New Era caps. The fashion of freestyle skiing has for years comprehensively emulated hip hop culture (and couture, *giggle giggle*) — but for one notable exception. When the time comes to come correct, Jon Olsson can be there with his best foreign car. But what about a fresh pair of Nike 6.0 steps? Hmmm…

Problem solved. Nike has gotten into the scene, which you already knew, since TJ, Jossi, Sammy, and The Dumont ride for 6.0. But did you know that it’s not just for skiing’s young and impressionable anymore? Nike 6.0’s ski mentor (team manager), Riley Poor, has even got some above-the-scene guys going above the rim in fresh custom Dunks, saying that “Eric Pollard is a legend in the sport and these Special Edition Nimbus Dunks were a token of appreciation from 6.0 to the Nimbus crew for their important contribution to our sport.”

Eric Pollard gives his best “Oh no you didn’t!” finger. Nimbus stays fly in they fresh Nikes.
Thanks to “tokens of appreciation” like that (and the Special Edition T Hall’s Massive Dunks that have been spotted providing the Tan Man with some much needed ankle support), we can finally express solidarity with our favorite ski filmmakers and our favorite ghetto hustlas simultaneously by staying fly in some custom Nike boots:

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Nike 6.0 and Wendy’s put on a rail jam this weekend in Portland. As a precursor to the Winter Dew tour, this jam session gave skiers a chance at $4000. Riders threw down in a half hour jam format and were scored on their combination of tricks. Tom Wallisch took 1st, Ian Cosco 2nd and Joe Schuster snagged 3rd. Check out the full photo gallery via Freeskier Magazine.

Multiple X Games golds, world-records and a mind-blowing level of progression — Simon Dumont is notorious for constantly upping the level of his skiing and redefining the boundaries of the sport. Simon will be returning to the X Games and Dew Tour for the 2008/09 season and filming the second half of “Transitions.” A true leader and pioneer in the making, Nike 6.0 is stoked to welcome Simon to the team.

“Watching Simon break the world record for highest quarter pipe air this season made us realize that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to prove himself capable of anything. Simon has emerged as a true leader in the sport and there is really no telling what Simon will set his sights on next,” says Riley Poor, Nike 6.0 Freeski Mentor.

Nike 6.0 Brings Copper Mountain Mayhem

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Why wouldn’t Nike 6.0’s Free Ski Team take a day to destroy spots at Copper Mountain locals have probably been dreaming about for years. There is always something special when you see your local spot being destroyed by the your favorite pros. Jossi, Sammy, and TJ are all well rounded in the art of hitting rails of any shape and size.

It may be International Surf Day, but that doesn’t mean snow is just a pipe dream. Jossi Wells, Sammy Carlson and TJ Schiller hit up Copper Mountain for a little 6.0 shoot and prove dreams can become reality.
