WOW, Simon leaves Salomon for Head skis. What a crazy turn of events for the soon to be Olympian Half Pipe Skier. Jon Olson has to be stoked to have Simon on the team. Sounds like they were able to swoop him away from Salomon Sports with a little wine and dine. In the video Simon says that he has never been to a ski production facility. How has a skier with so many pro model skis never seen how they are constructed? I am excited for the change. This might be the push that Simon needed to take his already impressive skiing to the next level. Congrats on the move my man.

The biggest story of the weekend was that Salomon Skis walked away with a grip of hardware. Congrats are in order for Mr. Simon Dumont who destroyed the ski pipe competition at the first stop. Good thing for that second run. Hopefully this momentum will push him all the way to his Winter X Games appearance later next month. Hey kids, get on the Salomon train that swept the slopestyle podium. Congrats go out to Alexis Godbout for the win, Bobby Brown for his impressive second place finish and Sammy Carlson for rounding out the top three. Not to be left out we were stoked to see the ladies step it up as well. Their conditions were not so rad this weekend. Ashley Battersby pulled through and took the win followed by Keri Herman and Jessica Warll.

There’s a new cut out from Poor Boyz filmer Pete Alport. The talent overfloweth with shots from Sammy Carlson, Dane Tudor, Matt Walker, Jossi Wells, Simon Dumont, and LJ Strenio as they seek and destroy the superpark features Park Manager Hames Ellerbe created for the shoot.

The 2010 Freestyle.ch has come and gone and the 2010/2011 season is right around the bend. I was just starting to enjoy my summer here in Oregon, but I guess it is time to get my skis mounted and waxed (We have to wax in Oregon because the snow has little baby arms that grab you). The Freestyle.ch gives me the chance to speculate who made it up to Hood and Blackcomb in the off season. You can tell by an athlete’s demeanor and style.

The toughest competitor on the ramp this year was moister, dripping off the limited edition goggles warn by skiing’s elite athletes. After checking out the videos from the event I could not determine a clear winner. I will tell you one thing… I can’t watch anymore double corks. I am sorry but Sammy Carlson made it boring when he landed a triple at Mt Hood during the filming of the new TGR film. The FreeStyle.ch was everything we expected from the action sports festival. Henrik Harlaut, Elias Ambühl, Andreas Håtveit, and PK Hunder held it down. I truly didn’t expect a Euro sweep of the podium but the Americans did hold it down for the other half of the top ten. The 2010 Jon Olsson Super Sessions have began in Are’ Sweden. It is already day three and things are looking up, way up. As always the jumps are big and so is the supporting cast. Bad news already at winter X Games 14. Skier Simon Dumont was injured at the end of super pipe practice Tuesday morning. From what I have read it sounds like he misjudged a double flip and bounced all the way down to the flat bottom. Don’t you worry fans, Simon was checked out by medical staff and is said to be ready… for a day off and some good old fashion rest. Mr. Dumont is still scheduled to compete in Friday’s Big Air, Saturday’s SuperPipe, and Sunday’s SuperPipe High Air. I am hoping for a speedy recovery since Simon is my pick to win the newest event, Super Pipe Big Air.

There is a new event for half pipe skiers at Winter X Games 14. Skiing SuperPipe High Air will feature the top six skiers in the world competing in a 30-minute jam format for highest air. After a long month of training on icy, hard pack, park jumps and competitions, the Nike 6.0 FreeSki Team of Sammy, Jossi, Simon and I TJ Schiller met up with photographer Blake Jorgenson Poorboyz filmers Phil Benjamin and Tyler Hamlet and Team Manager, Dave Driscoll In Nelson, British Columbia. Tom Wallisch has rad style and when paired up with a technical skier like Dumont you get the best representation of Team America. This video shows off what Tom and Simon bring to FreeSkiing. I would have been stoked on the original team America consisting of Tanner Hall and Sammy Carlson but this is the next best thing. Stoked to see this vid. I think you will be too.

Just when you thought Tom Wallisch couldn’t blow up anymore this year he goes and wins the RedBull Dumont Cup held this weekend in Sunday River Maine. Looks like the 2007 SuperUnknown winner’s hard work in Park City has payed off. The amount of coverage Tom has received since his win at the XGames has been astounding. If there has been a major event in the freeskiing world Tom has been there. This weekend he brought his technical yet smooth style to Sunday River and impressed the judges enough to bring home the $10K prize. Good work T$.
