2013 K2 Sean Pettitor Ski

Posted on February 6th, 2012 in 2012 SIA Snow Show, Gear, General by Jason

This is one of the skis we are most excited about after visiting SIA. Just a couple of seasons ago many people thought 105 was the sweet spot for ski width, but as more and more skis have swelled past 115mm under foot the new norm for width is becoming much wider.  The 2013 K2 Pettitor is Sean Pettit’s first pro model ski, and definitely belongs to that “new-school” mentality clocking in at 120mm under foot.  It still has plenty of side cut though, so along with a decent amount of torsional rigidity, expect it to perform fairly well on hard pack.

Of course early rise is on board for plenty of float in deep snow, and even though this ski is obviously meant for charging big lines just like Sean, based on the specs, we expect it to perform well across a wide range of conditions, for most decent skiers.

Stay tuned for an on-snow review of this one in the coming weeks, where hopefully our intuition about this being a super fun ski will prove correct.

Sean Pettit Wins 2011 Red Bull Linecatcher

Posted on January 17th, 2011 in Events by Spencer

Sean Pettit throws down at the 2011 Red Bull Linecatcher competition in Vars, France. The young Canadian never lost his top spot in the field but that did not stop Italy’s Markus Eder or Bend Oregon’s Tim Durtschi from gunning for him (we do not promote skier on skier violence) throughout the competition. While most skiers were taking the first run easy Pettit and Durtschi stepped on the gas. Skiersrealm will post video footage when it is available so check back soon.

Red Bull Linecatcher 2010 – Vars, France

Posted on January 14th, 2010 in Events, General by Spencer

The Red Bull Linecatcher event in Vars, France was quite amazing this year. The new competition format catered to the style of free skiing’s top athletes. For the past couple of years it seems more and more pros are leaving the terrain park for natural hits in the back country. The course in Vars had a big mountain feel with select takeoffs throughout giving everyone the freedom to choose a line and hit huge transfers. Frenchman Candide Thovex took 1st by sticking his final run, K2 Ski’s Sean Pettit placed 2nd but maybe should have been a little higher with his mind blowing run, and CR Johnson rounded out the podium with the bronze.
