There are several factors driving the popularity of boutique ski brands these days. Two of the big ones are 1. Often they’re made here in the U.S. 2. They aren’t afraid to try new things. It’s refreshing really to hear about small companies gaining traction in this industry that’s been ruled by giants for so long. Personally I’d rather support the little guy anyway, I like the idea of a company that can think and evolve freely without haven’t to jump through hoops or go through 8 different levels of management before getting the go ahead to try something new. The two videos below are great examples of two smaller companies fighting the good fight in a war of giants. Moment & Surface skis. Moment: Handmade in Reno, NV. These are the real people who are making your skis. Surface: Might not be crafted inside the US borders, but they aren’t afraid to try something new and for that they’ve got my respect. Support.
