Nimbus Crew Converges On Mammoth

The Nimbus crew heads south for the winter and sure enough they find it. With a solid group of skiers and a couple Go Pro Cameras these guys are going to have some rad edits available for viewing soon. Photographer Peter Morning has also joined the boys to get some still pics. With a projected storm total at Mammoth of over 10 feet it shouldn’t be hard to get some amazing shots in the deep deep pow.

Something to mention is the fact that two new faces have joined the crew in Cali. Christian Sirianni is originally from Australia but has moved his residence to Mammoth with a mission to slay. Sharing a love of the K2 Hellbent Skis with Andy Mahre should help him fit right in. The other new face is that of Volkl Team Skier, Dylan Hood. Dylan moved to Oregon a couple years ago and was able to connect with Eric Pollard since they both ski Mt. Hood Meadows. After filming with Teton Gravity Research for the past couple years it will be awesome to see his skills pasted to the creative forefront that only Nimbus can deliver. Keep an eye out for Dylan Hood’s new website that is coming soon. Also check NimbusIndependent.com and ChrisBenchetler.com for new edits as they are become available.

Whistler Blackcomb Gets 22″ In 24 Hours

Posted on November 19th, 2009 in general, resorts by Spencer

OMG, Miley Cyrus. Looks like the party has left the USA. If you can skip out on work this week it will be worth it. There is a storm pounding BC and Whistler, where the Kokanee flows like wine, is getting a little snow here and there. Lodging is cheap with crazy preseason hotel deals and most importantly it is puking snow. 22″ in 24 hours looks something like the picture above. If you need SkiersRealm to write you a note to get out of school early, we would be happy to.

Snow Day At Mt. Bachelor and Mt. Hood Meadows

Mt. Bachelor and Mt. Hood Meadows have both received snow this week. The weather man says that the temps are supposed to stay cold and more precipitation is on the way through the end of this week. With this global warming climate change comes new weather patterns. Maybe Oregon will become the early season ski epicenter for North America? Only time will tell but I am not going to complain if I am making turns on Thanksgiving Day 2009.

Summer Projects Update From Oregon’s Mt. Bachelor

Posted on September 16th, 2009 in general, resorts by Spencer

Mt. Bachelor has always been my favorite mountain to ski in the Northwest. The ability to easily find unique yet challenging in bounds terrain cannot be beat and the powder, oh yes the powder, is dry like what you might find in Utah or Wyoming. Within the last five or so years Mt. Bachelor has been plagued by complaints of poor service and a lack of lift operational consistency. I have personally sat on the Northwest Express lift not moving in high winds and cold temperatures checking my watch as the day’s runs were getting more and more expensive.

Mt. Bachelor has since tried to remedy these issues and become more of the destination resort that produced the accolades they received in the last decade. The 2008-2009 season brought change within the mind set of the resort staff. Their welcoming smiles made me forget any uncertainty I may have had about the problems of the past seasons. This year’s summer projects go to show a commitment to the future of the mountain and their focus on hospitality. We applaud the approach that Powder Corp has taken to make Mt. Bachelor the best place to ski in North America. Here’s to the new Mt. Bachelor. See you in dilly dally alley.

(Bend, Ore – Sept 16, 2009) – With only week’s remaining until Mt. Bachelor’s pre-season deadline for the lowest rates on season passes (September 30), the ski area is wrapping up preparations for the 2009-2010 ski season that have included $1.25 million worth of improvement spending. A wide variety of projects both on the mountain and in guest service departments have been underway since the conclusion of the previous season. Below are details on a selection of those projects.
