Russ Henshaw took number one at the first annual Barcelona Snow Show this weekend in Spain. It was a show down of double corks but that is what gets you paid these days. The video montage says it all. The setup looked awesome and with a 115 foot tall drop in there was no lack of speed. The only issue seemed to be the landing which didn’t hold up after a couple crashes. The event rolled on with Russ, Elias, and Tom killing it in the finals.
Results:
1. Russ Henshaw | 2. Elias Ambuhl | 3. Tom Wallisch | 4. TJ Schiller | 5. Andreas Håtveit | 6. Jon Olsson
7. Paddy Graham | 8. Patrick Hollaus | 9. Benedikt Mayr | 10. Noah Albaladejo

Team Europe JOSS 2010 Selection Process

Posted on November 10th, 2009 in events, general, skiers by Spencer

Sounds like Jon has figured out how to choose the best riders in Europe to represent at the Jon Olsson Super Sessions for 2010. Who will be in the top spots? Will they be indeed the best? I am stoked to see how the rookies do. I think this will make the event better than ever. Read the entire press release.

So I think its about time to release some info about JOSS 2010.

I thought that I would start by announcing how Team Europe will be put together. This is not an easy task, no matter how I do it there will be discussions whether it was the right guys that got in. So I decided to go with a simple and fair formula, I want the best skiers to represent Team Europe at JOSS and I feel that this is the right way. READ MORE ABOUT 2010 JOSS

Russ Henshaw Wins 2009 London Freeze

Posted on November 1st, 2009 in events, general, skiers by Spencer

The biggest names in free skiing once again converged onto London town for the 2009 Freeze. This years jump was awesomely big and then it rained. The competition almost did not happen when half of the landing washed away. Simon Dumont cut his losses and did not compete. The skiers that kept their boots on were given the chance to hit the kicker after about two hours of work. Props to the staff that were able to get the new snow to stick to the wet landing. Overall the competition was a success. Props to Russ, Andreas and Bobby.

1. Russ Henshaw, 2. Bobby Brown, 3. Andreas Håtveit, 4. Benedict Mayr, 5. Jacob Wester, 6. Corey Vanular, 7. Roy Kittler, 8. Elias Ambuhl, 9. Fridtjof Fredricsson, 10. Phil Casabon, 11. Matt Walker, 11. Paddy Graham, 13. Tom Wallisch, 13. Alexis Godbout, 15. TJ Schiller

Tom Wallisch Joins Scott Skis International Team

Posted on November 1st, 2009 in gear, general, skiers by Spencer

Ketchum, ID, October 29th, 2009 — After months of speculation, SCOTT USA would like to put the rumors to rest and announce that Tom Wallisch, the world’s #1 slopestyle skier and creator of the illest edits, is officially the newest member of the SCOTT International Ski Team. Wallisch is the first North American to be sponsored on SCOTT’s award winning skis. Wallisch will also represent SCOTT for goggles and ski poles.

“At just 22 years old, Tom has proven that he is a force in slopestyle and that he can throw down dominating movie segments,” comments Gabe Glosband, marketing director for SCOTT’s wintersport division. Wallisch’s resume is already stacked, he has appeared in numerous Level 1 Productions movies and has solid slopestyle competition results including victories at Dew Tour Northstar and the Dumont Cup. Tom was recognized as the #1 Ranked Slopestyle skier for 2008-09 season by the Association of Freeskiing Professionals. “Tom is the skier we wanted to be SCOTT’s first North American ski athlete. I can’t wait to watch him rip our skis onto the podium,” adds Kevin Kruse, SCOTT’s wintersport team manager.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be joining a company like SCOTT and to be riding their skis and rocking their eyewear and poles. I am really stoked to take my skiing to the next level with their help,” states Wallisch.

Seth Morrison Signs With Backcountry.com

Backcountry.com just signed rocker Seth Morrison onto their pro team. I’m not sure how other pro teams work with their athletes, but at Backcountry they need to get mixed up with the online community, provide unique pics and stories, and write product reviews if they want to get paid. Seth shouldn’t have a problem with that seeing as how he has a kickass blog.

“I’m excited to be a part of the Backcountry Team. I’ve been going to Backcountry.com for years to check out reviews and see the newest latest all in one place,” said Seth. “Stoked to see all of my pro model gear on the site, it lets me know that we’re creating needed products for today’s skier.”

I bet he writes lengthy product reviews of his pro model gear and one word reviews of every other ski: “meh.” Backcountry.com is stoked to have this iconic, badass skier as part of their team. I hope he survives the spanking machine Backcountry.com Athlete hazing ritual.

Henrik Harlaut Takes Freestyle Berlin

Posted on October 11th, 2009 in events, general, skiers by Spencer

Henrik Harlaut takes the win at the Freestyle Berlin this weekend and is also the newest member of the Empire Attire Team. Putting in the time on Mt. Hood this summer season must have done Henrik well. Another guy that spends a lot of time at Mt. Hood, Sammy Carlson, won the Freestyle Zurich a couple weeks ago but came in second this weekend. TJ Schiller rounded the top three and Jacob Wester took fourth.
