Mark Abma Joins Magic Potion Wax (Eco-Friendly)

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Magic Potion, producer of high performance, eco-friendly gliding products, is launching their line in North America for the 2008/9 winter season. In conjunction with the launch, they are excited to announce that two-time Powder Magazine Athlete of the Year, Mark Abma, has joined the Magic Potion Family. Whistler based Abma, needs no introduction. His extensive list of competition and ski film accomplishments rivals that of any free-ski athlete, but more importantly for the company his philosophy and attitude matches that of Magic Potion.

“I was never one to wax my skis in the past…I just never gave it the time. Magic Potion created an unparalleled wax that is easy to use, eco-friendly, and has amazing performance results. I think it’s really great to see what Magic Potion has accomplished with their product and I’m proud to be a part of the Magic Family” says Abma.

In his time off skis, Mark is forming a foundation to support mountain sustainability, and Magic Potion is pleased to be working with him towards his goal. Magic Potion produces a line of high performance, efficient but eco-friendly gliding products, that contain no fluorocarbons, no paraffin and no wax. Plus, you don’t need an iron to apply Magic Potion! The products are 100% biodegradable and, unlike other competitive products, will last for days.

Based in France, Magic Potion has been on the market in Europe for 4 years and now has
distribution in North America, based out of Squamish, BC.

Winter Dew Tour News Update

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

NEW YORK — December 1, 2008 — NBC Sports and MTV, a division of Viacom’s MTV Networks (NYSE: VIA and VIA.B), announced today the creation of Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports”. Alli is a global business that joins the former Action Sports Tour properties (AST) with Maloof Money Cup, AMA Motocross Championship and King of Wake series to create the most diverse and robust action-sports offering in the world. The new umbrella brand, which will continue to be co-owned by NBC Sports and MTV, will offer a schedule of seven national and international action sports tours and events, multimedia content and production, a digital hub and consumer-facing lifestyle brand.

Building on the successful foundation of AST, Alli will serve as the owner and operator of the Dew Tour and Winter Dew Tour, Free Flow Tour, and the China Invitational. In addition, Alli has formed partnerships with industry leaders and premier properties: Maloof Money Cup, the AMA Motocross Championships, and the King of Wake series. Alli partners will continue to manage their respective events with the added benefit of television programming on NBC Sports and MTV, global media content distribution, sponsorship sales, and marketing and promotion across all platforms. A soon-to-be-launched digital hub will also serve as the online destination for all Alli properties and a leading source of all action sports content and news.

This announcement comes six months after the groundbreaking joint venture between NBC and MTV around the AST and its related businesses. This wide-ranging, strategic partnership expanded the business across NBC and MTV’s multiple screens, including action sports competition and youth-focused lifestyle programming, cross-promotion, multi-platform content and distribution, consumer products licensing and an enhanced digital offering. Moving forward under the Alli brand, the partnership will include over 80 hours of original programming offered annually across NBC, USA Network, MTV and MTV2

“Alli’s mission is to facilitate the momentous growth of action sports by showcasing both the competition and lifestyle aspect of these sports. We believe these are the sports of a new generation and Alli will bring together the best properties, athletes, and brands globally for the fans of action sports,” says Wade Martin, President of Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports.

“When NBC Sports launched the Dew Tour we knew there would be an opportunity to expand into other action sports. We are excited to bring the best programming across the entire action sports genre on multiple media distribution platforms to our audience,” says Kevin Monaghan, Senior Vice President, Business Development, NBC Sports & Olympics.

Added Jeff Yapp, Executive Vice President of Program Enterprises for MTV Networks Music & Logo Group, “This is a major step in building the business we imagined when we first partnered with NBC Sports. Building our online platform, creating a lifestyle brand, and expanding original content will positively impact the network of partners, athletes, fans and the action sports industry as a whole, which is everything that the alliance represents”.

Salomon FreeSki TV Featuring Matt Walker

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Check out the new Salomon FreeSki TV episode shot in Quebec with Charles Gagnier and Matt Walker. Salomon FreeSki Team rider, Matt Walker, just got an invite to this years Winter X-Games (John Symms’ EXPN Ski Blog). I am stoked to hear the news that he will have a chance to prove himself on that scale of competition. Matt Walker slays what ever feature you place in front of him (Watch Salomon FreeSki TV).

As a student at CU in Boulder Matt juggles skiing at Breckenridge, traveling the world and going to school. I don’t know what grades he gets so I will not speculate, but Matt is a great skier with a bright future ahead of him.

Holy Nike 6.0’s, CoreUpt’s TJ Schiller is Back

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Hello Mr. Schiller. Welcome back to a Skier’s Realm. There is no better feeling than clicking back into a pair of bindings after dealing with the struggle of recovering from an injury. According to a source close to TJ, he still has worries about the life of his career and how well his knee will hold up this year. With the amount of work TJ Schiller has put into the rehab process, there is no doubt in my mind he will be strong enough to make a huge impact in the skiing community this season.

In late November TJ knocked the dust off of his boots with Jon Olsson at the water jumps in a brisk Stockholm. He was in Sweden to judge fellow CoreUpt Skiers Gus, Ritchi, and Colby West in the Stockholm King Of Style. Seems like he is getting his muscle memory back in a hurry. Check out the video from Jon Olsson’s Video Blog below. TJ Schiller will be testing himself at the first ever Winter Dew Tour Stop in Breckenridge Colarado. We want to wish TJ a awesome and healthy season. Keep it real for the CoreUpt and Nike 6.0 Ski Teams.

K2 Skis PK Hunder Wins King Of Style Stockholm

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

PK Hunder does it again. This year has started off well for the 20 year old Norwegian. PK came onto the scene a couple years ago at the Jon Olsson Super Sessions. He went, did his thing and dominated against some of the biggest names in the business. Jon Olsson took second with his double flip. This year is no different. Hunder already took over the London Freeze earlier this season. PK’s style reflects his personality and his ability to spin on a dime will have him on the podium the rest of the season. Check out his steezed out 1260 in the video. Not to shabby. Jon Olsson also showed a little face time in his video as well.

(Redbullskiing.com) Double flips are dominating the city-jump season, so it’s no big surprise to see innovator Jon Olsson up on the podium at the Stockholm King of Style event. Jon took second place and proceeded to reenact the gasoline fight scene from Zoolander with Red Bull teammate Simon Dumont. Check out the Jon Olsson Videoblog!

Tanner Hall and Sean Pettit Team Up With Dakine

To be honest, this post will be minimally related to Tanner Hall. Nevertheless, he’s a swell guy, a talented skier, and his name gets googled enough that it must be a good idea to put his name in the head, title, and body of a post at least every now and then. In the latest Tanner news, Hall judged the London Freeze Big Air as recently as two weeks ago. In a quick break from the rigors of adjudication, Tanner showed the crowd and staff that he knows his way around the business end of a shovel, too. Not that that’s a surprise, given his high regard for backcountry skiing.

A blog post and photo gallery feature information from the event, pictorial representations of the thrilling action thereof, and candid photos of “Maneater”-live-minus-Oates casting a most discerning, frogskin-clad eye on the contest. Chris O’Connell also made clever use of regional vernacular and idioms in his engaging account of his experience, impression of the event on Armada’s website. Get with (behind) the times and check it out.

In other Tanner Hall news, Dakine has just picked up Tanner and his little partner in Massive crime, Sean Pettit. Or is it that they’ve picked up Dakine? I don’t know. But stay on the lookout for T-Hall-Dakine collab product someday soon. In a related story, the economy hangs on the horns of a dye-lemma as the pigment industry braces itself for a projected shortage of red, yellow, and green textile dyes.

Thanks for the traffic boost, Tannerhall.com.
