TJ Schiller Spins 1620 Winter X Ski Big Air

Posted on January 30th, 2010 in events, general, skiers by Spencer

Put your skis away because TJ Schiller just closed down the sport of free skiing for the next couple of years. Last night at Winter X Games 10 Ski Big Air, TJ landed a double corked 1620. Yes that is correct, 1620. He just ruined the sport by progressing it way too fast. Because of an awesome couple of jumps by Bobby Brown, TJ had to settle for the silver but I am not sure he is that bent about it. WOW!

Results:
1) Bobby Brown – 100
2) TJ Schiller – 95

Day 1: 2010 X Games Slopestyle Results

Posted on January 28th, 2010 in events, general by Spencer

Day 1 is over and so are the X games for a couple unfortunate professional skiers. Since only the top 8 move up, the men’s slopestyle finals are going to be packed with the best. I wasn’t really impressed with the double flipping straight rail riding competition today. I am stoked to see Sammy and Tom throw down with more style Saturday. Check out the Skiing Slopestyle Men’s Final on ESPN 2 this Saturday, January 30 at 4 pm- 6 pm.

The women’s slopestyle field was quite a bit smaller so the finals were held today. Kaya Turski, Keri Herman, and Grete Eliassen rounded out the top 3 with no real surprises.

Simon Dumont Injured In X Games 14 Pipe Practice

Posted on January 27th, 2010 in events, general, skiers by Spencer

Ture Lillegraven

Bad news already at winter X Games 14. Skier Simon Dumont was injured at the end of super pipe practice Tuesday morning. From what I have read it sounds like he misjudged a double flip and bounced all the way down to the flat bottom. Don’t you worry fans, Simon was checked out by medical staff and is said to be ready… for a day off and some good old fashion rest. Mr. Dumont is still scheduled to compete in Friday’s Big Air, Saturday’s SuperPipe, and Sunday’s SuperPipe High Air. I am hoping for a speedy recovery since Simon is my pick to win the newest event, Super Pipe Big Air.

Red Bull Linecatcher 2010 – Vars, France

Posted on January 14th, 2010 in events, general by Spencer

The Red Bull Linecatcher event in Vars, France was quite amazing this year. The new competition format catered to the style of free skiing’s top athletes. For the past couple of years it seems more and more pros are leaving the terrain park for natural hits in the back country. The course in Vars had a big mountain feel with select takeoffs throughout giving everyone the freedom to choose a line and hit huge transfers. Frenchman Candide Thovex took 1st by sticking his final run, K2 Ski’s Sean Pettit placed 2nd but maybe should have been a little higher with his mind blowing run, and CR Johnson rounded out the podium with the bronze. Team Europe JOSS 2010 Selection Process

Posted on November 10th, 2009 in events, general, skiers by Spencer

Sounds like Jon has figured out how to choose the best riders in Europe to represent at the Jon Olsson Super Sessions for 2010. Who will be in the top spots? Will they be indeed the best? I am stoked to see how the rookies do. I think this will make the event better than ever. Read the entire press release.

So I think its about time to release some info about JOSS 2010.

I thought that I would start by announcing how Team Europe will be put together. This is not an easy task, no matter how I do it there will be discussions whether it was the right guys that got in. So I decided to go with a simple and fair formula, I want the best skiers to represent Team Europe at JOSS and I feel that this is the right way. READ MORE ABOUT 2010 JOSS

Russ Henshaw Wins 2009 London Freeze

Posted on November 1st, 2009 in events, general, skiers by Spencer

The biggest names in free skiing once again converged onto London town for the 2009 Freeze. This years jump was awesomely big and then it rained. The competition almost did not happen when half of the landing washed away. Simon Dumont cut his losses and did not compete. The skiers that kept their boots on were given the chance to hit the kicker after about two hours of work. Props to the staff that were able to get the new snow to stick to the wet landing. Overall the competition was a success. Props to Russ, Andreas and Bobby.

1. Russ Henshaw, 2. Bobby Brown, 3. Andreas Håtveit, 4. Benedict Mayr, 5. Jacob Wester, 6. Corey Vanular, 7. Roy Kittler, 8. Elias Ambuhl, 9. Fridtjof Fredricsson, 10. Phil Casabon, 11. Matt Walker, 11. Paddy Graham, 13. Tom Wallisch, 13. Alexis Godbout, 15. TJ Schiller

Henrik Harlaut Takes Freestyle Berlin

Posted on October 11th, 2009 in events, general, skiers by Spencer

Henrik Harlaut takes the win at the Freestyle Berlin this weekend and is also the newest member of the Empire Attire Team. Putting in the time on Mt. Hood this summer season must have done Henrik well. Another guy that spends a lot of time at Mt. Hood, Sammy Carlson, won the Freestyle Zurich a couple weeks ago but came in second this weekend. TJ Schiller rounded the top three and Jacob Wester took fourth.

Sammy Carlson Wins FreeStyle.ch

Posted on September 27th, 2009 in events, general, skiers by Spencer

Sammy Carlson showed up in Zurich this weekend and dominated the competition. With the sponsor support of Nike 6.0 Freeski, Rockstar and Salomon Skis, Sammy goes huge banging out a double corked 1080 with a mute grab, and a little poke in the middle. Judges were stoked on Sammy’s style. We are stoked on the new 2010 Salomon Suspect Ski. They look awesome this year with a matte black top sheet. Don’t forget to watch Sammy’s new ski movie, Can’t Stop.
